Hat designer Patricia Underwood creates luxurious, custom made, hand finished designs which rely on the most subtle understanding of shape, color and proportion for their effect. Her career began on an impulse to take an evening class in millinery at the Fashion Institute of Technology. That whim inspired her to design hats which flatter the wearer’s appearance and complement her clothing, rather than become a distracting ornament.

The current collection continues to present signature hats of straw, felt, leather and cashmere. The ongoing interest in using the finest materials is a continued goal for the Patricia Underwood Company, as is the commitment to manufacture in America. The hats are sold in select department and specialty stores throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.

Ms. Underwood has maintained this unwavering design philosophy throughout her 35 year career. In recognition of her outstanding work she has received a COTY award, a CFDA Award, an American Accessories Achievement award, and Fashion Group International Entrepreneur of the year award. She has collaborated with and created hats for the world’s leading global designers including: Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, St John Knits, Marimekko and Oscar de la Renta.

Her hats have been worn in such feature films as Sex in the City 2, Down with Love, Cinderella, Sabrina, Six Days - Seven Nights, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Austin Powers, The Imposters, The Pallbearers and Return to Paradise.

Ms. Underwood’s hats are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute, Fashion Institute of Technology Museum and the Philadelphia Art Museum. Patricia Underwood is an Emeritus Board Member of The Council of Fashion Designers of America and a member of Fashion Group International. She was born in Maidenhead England and has been working in the USA since 1967.
