Internationally recognized hat designer Patricia Underwood, this year celebrates 40 years of contributing to the fashion industry as a thoroughly modern milliner. Rizzoli celebrates her anniversary with a new book, PATRICIA UNDERWOOD: The Way You Wear Your Hat, out in May 2015 featuring images from the designer’s own archive, as well as editorial work from some of the world’s greatest fashion photographers, including Richard Avedon, Horst, Irving Penn, Jonathan Marder + Company, Barry Lategan, Annie Liebovitz, and Bruce Webber and the archives of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.

She shares her inspirations—from art, cinema, historical periods, and nature—as well as sharing her favorite hats. It includes work she has done for stage and screen. Patricia Underwood has produced collections for designers including Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Isaac Mizrahi, and a host of others. As well as creating under her own name beautiful hand-made understated cloches, top hats, visors, wide-brimmed hats, berets, fedoras, turbans, trilbies, sun hats, and more.
